Understanding Standard Crontab Syntax

Cron expressions consist of 5 required positional parameters separated by whitespace. Each parameter specifies a discrete time component:

Asterisk (*) & Comma (,)

The asterisk (*) represents all possible values in that field. The comma (,) creates a discrete list of values, such as 1,15,30 to run on specific minutes or days.

Hyphen (-) & Slash (/)

The hyphen (-) specifies a continuous range, like 1-5 for Monday through Friday. The slash (/) specifies step increments, like */10 for every 10 units.
